The evolution of the legendary stirrups
In collaboration with the inventor Erwin Meroth, Sprenger developed the first jointed stirrup which was characterized by a forward and backward moveable tread. Hereby, the heels were always and automatically in the correct low position and an immediate release was possible in case of emergency. Due to the permanent contact of the complete sole this stirrup additionally provided very good foothold and relaxed calves. Therefore this stirrup rapidly enjoyed a great popularity among show jumpers and military riders.
In 1998 Sprenger improved the flexibility by extending the joint with an additional link. From now on the stirrup distinguished by maximum comfort in addition to the known advantages. Hips, knees and ankles are relieved during riding and particularly ligaments and menisci are spared. Until today this patented "System 4 jointed stirrup“ stands as an epitome for comfortable and secure riding. It has unquestionable confidence from leisure riders through to professional athletes and can be found on every tournament.
